Which chapter in World History did you enjoy most this year and why?
I enjoyed chapter 3 the most because the Egyptians where great artists and started very important traditions. I was interested in this topic because I was amazed that they did such modern civilized things so long ago. My favorite part was learning about the Great Pyramids; it was amazing and I wish I can go there someday. The Nile River also amazed me.
Describe some of the things that you learned in that chapter. Is there a project that you completed that you enjoyed working on?
I learned that the Nile River is the longest river in the world. I also learned about the Rosetta Stone. The Rosetta Stone is a big rock that had words on it that were written in different ways. Once the Rosetta Stone was decoded archeologists could read hieroglyphics. I learned that, even without modern technology, the Egyptian, over time, built the great pyramids. They are massive pyramid shaped, stone structures in Egypt.
What new skills have you learned throughout the year?
This year I have learned map skills. I had known about them but this year I found out how I can use them on the maps in our book to find how far cities and such are from each other. This is a skill that I didn’t really know how to use or feel comfortable about using it. Now I know what I am doing. Now I can use the scale on a map very easily. This is definitely a life skill.
4. How can you apply this knowledge to the real world? Applying this knowledge to the real world can lead me on great adventures. The map skills I picked up along the way will help me to get where I want to go. If I decide to, I could become a professional in one of these categories. I can also go and travel all over the world. It would be even cooler because I know all about where I am and how amazing the people used to be that lived there.
All in all it is amazing how civilizations grow throughout the world. I really enjoyed world history and will greatly miss Mr. Cupples (and his crazy jokes!!!!!!!)
